Ross Offinger, who has served in financial positions on fundraising committees now reportedly under Federal investigation, has acted as finance director for the official campaign committee of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York).
The fundraising committees now reportedly under Federal investigation are New Yorkers for de Blasio, the official campaign committee of Mayor Bill de Blasio (D-New York City), and the Campaign for One New York, Mayor de Blasio's nonprofit lobbying arm.
Mr. Offinger has served as finance director for New Yorkers for de Blasio and as treasurer for the Campaign for One New York.
It's unclear if Sen. Gilligrand will stand by Mr. Offinger whilst he is reportedly under Federal investigation.
A request made to Marc Brumer, Sen. Gillibrand's communications director, was not immediately answered. An e-mail sent to the account from which Mr. Offinger has previously broadcast fundraising solicitations on behalf of Sen. Gillibrand's campaign committee, Gillibrand for Senate, was not immediately answered. It's material to note that the e-mail sent by Progress Queens to Mr. Offinger's e-mail account with the Gillibrand campaign did not bounce.
One aspect of the wide-ranging, Federal corruption investigation into Mayor de Balsio's fundraising committees has been reported to focus on how Mayor de Blasio has raised campaign contributions from the real estate industry. Federal law enforcement agents are reportedly seeking to determine if the de Blasio administration has made official acts in exchange for having received the campaign contributions from real estate interests. As of yet, no criminal charges have been filed in respect of that reported aspect of the Federal corruption investigation.
There is no indication that Mr. Offinger's affiliation with Sen. Gillibrand's campaign committee is prompting any investigation of her campaign committee. However, the Web site, Open Secrets, which is operated by the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan government watchdog group, identified the real estate industry as the third-highest sector from which the Gillibrand for Senate campaign committee has raised donations. For the period of 2011-2016, Gillibrand for Senate raised $739,202 in campaign contributions from real estate interests.
